Georgia’s Governor has declared a state of emergency because of the winter storm, but it’s Day 1 of the legislative session so I braved the snowy roads anyway. Was creeping along on 400, nearing exit 5, in the home stretch…only to discover the ramp to the North Springs MARTA station was closed.
Much swearing and Droid consultation commenced (I pulled into a Home Depot parking lot to do both) and I made it to the Sandy Springs station. Waiting (and freezing) now. I’m definitely going to be late, even though I gave myself an extra 40 minutes.
Not an auspicious beginning to the 2011 legislative session.
To be fair, our office head sent out a note last Friday telling folks not to come in if the weather made it too dangerous. I figured with the state of emergency and all, there'd be very few people out driving this morning. Having grown up in the Midwest, I know how to drive in snow. What scares me is folks zipping around on the roads who don't. But with hardly any other drivers out, I figured I'd be reasonably safe.
'Course there was still the one moron riding my tail and going too fast down the freeway, but he thankfully turned off pretty quickly. I expect he's probably in a ditch somewhere by now.
